Synopsis

This Extended Solution to the Payroll module adds a new option from Deduction Maintenance Taxes screen for ‘Local Code,’ to allow for the reduction of taxable income by the amount of the deduction by individual locality.

Installation

Before installing any Extended Solution, please verify that the version level referenced on your installation file is the same version level as your Sage 100 (MAS 90 MAS 200) installation. (For more information please call (800) 425-9843). It is recommended to have a complete and tested backup prior to installing any application on your Sage 100 (MAS 90 MAS 200) platform.

Extended Solutions Control Center

Installing any Extended Solution will add an Extended Solutions Control Center to the Sage 100 (MAS 90 MAS 200) Library Master Utilities menu. When you open the Control Center, the following options will be available:

  • Merge Installation Files
  • Extended Solutions Setup options

Custom Office

If you customize your Sage 100 (MAS 90 MAS 200), then you must run the Update Utility every time you install this Extended Solution.

Setup

Upon completion of software installation, you will need to access the Payroll Setup menu option screen. After the standard MAS 90 MAS 200 option screens have been displayed, a Setup screen for this Extended Solution will appear. Check the ‘Enable Extended Solution’ box to activate this Extended Solution (Figure 1).

You should visit this Setup screen after each upgrade or reinstallation of this Extended Solution.

Operation

Within MAS 90 MAS 200’s Deduction Code Maintenance, for Pension Plan and Cafeteria Plan type deductions, a ‘Taxes’ button is available. From this option, you receive options to Reduce Federal Tax, Reduce State Tax and Reduce Local Tax (Figure 2). Under each of these headings, there are specific types of taxes (withholding, LDI) that can be checked under the Local Tax Heading. Checking the boxes for each specific tax allows you to indicate that the taxable income is to be reduced by the amount of this deduction. Leaving the box blank indicates that the taxable income is not to be reduced by the amount of the deduction.

A ‘More…’ button has been added to the Reduce Taxable Income screen. By clicking this button, you will be presented with a new screen, from which you may enter in a state code, a specific local code, and then check the boxes (or leave them blank) associated with each type of local tax, e.g., ‘Withholding,’ ‘Employee LDI,’ ‘Unemployment Tax,’ and ‘Other Local’ (Figure 3). The entry of a State Code will be required purely to validate the Local Code entered. There will be no ability to enter a State Code only, without a local code, and respond to the prompts. There is no ability to override these settings on an employee-by-employee basis.

Payroll Data Entry Tax Calculation will refer to the new data when calculating taxable income for the local codes referenced on the earnings lines. In the absence of a record for a local code, tax calculation will refer to the standard MAS 90 MAS 200 screen for Reduce Taxable Income, where the prompts are answered without regard to a specific local code. The new information specific to the local codes will not be added to the Deduction Listing or to any other standard report. The data will be defined in the data dictionary for Crystal Reports (see below).

Visual Integrator

The files listed below have been added or changed in the Data Dictionary by this Extended Solution for Visual Integrator purposes.

Upgrades and Compatibility

The installation CD is labeled with the version of the MAS 90 MAS 200 module for which this Extended Solution was prepared. This Extended Solution will check its compatibility with the appropriate MAS 90 MAS 200 modules and will be disabled if an incompatibility is found. If you upgrade your MAS 90 MAS 200 modules, this Extended Solution must be upgraded as well. Your MAS 90 MAS 200 dealer can supply this upgrade.
